It is with deep sadness and regret that the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) announces the passing of its Immediate Past President, Dr. Shaukat Sadikot, on October 1, 2019.

He worked as a Consultant in Endocrinology at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Center, Mumbai and served as President of DiabetesIndia for many years. Dr. Sadikot was instrumental in conducting the first nationwide survey on the prevalence of diabetes in India. In his capacity as Founding President of DiabetesIndia, he launched many projects for the enhancement of healthcare professional education in the field of diabetes.

During his tenure as IDF President, Dr. Sadikot oversaw the launch of the IDF School of Diabetes, the Federation’s flagship programme in support of online health professional education, the publication of the 7th Edition of the IDF Diabetes Atlas and the successful IDF Congress 2017 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He also initiated a new series of live IDF educational events focusing on diabetes complications, the first of which was held in Hyderabad, India, in October 2018.
